Biography

Emily Hanewicz Tong was born in Trenton, New Jersey, and grew up in Brookfield, Connecticut. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from La Salle University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in May of 2009. She then relocated to South Carolina in 2010, at which time she began working for a real estate law firm, followed by a boutique civil litigation firm – both while attending Charleston School of Law. She graduated from Charleston School of Law in December 2014 and became licensed to practice law in the State of South Carolina and was admitted to the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina in 2015.

Shortly after obtaining her license, Emily began working for Wigger Law Firm and was named Partner in 2019. She managed Wigger Law Firm’s West Ashley and Summerville offices before founding Tong Law Firm in April of 2024.

Emily is a proud member of the South Carolina Association for Justice, Injured Workers’ Advocates, and the Legal Network for Gender Equity. She was selected for the South Carolina Lawyers Weekly “PowerList” in both 2023 and 2024 and has been chosen as a presenter at local events through the South Carolina Bar and the Philo 21-hour Invitational Seminar hosted in Detroit, Michigan.

Having spent most of her life as a dancer, Emily is a supporter of theater, fashion, and the arts. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Sovannara (“Oat”) and her two fur babies, Salt and Max.
